Good Week To Be A Conservative

You know, this is an amazing week. Massachusetts goes Republican, health care dies and the Supreme Court unshackles the First Amendment. It’s the best week I’ve had since spring break in medical school — and I don’t even remember it. And there was another item . . .  Air America, the liberal talk show network went out of business — which is a redundancy because nobody was listening anyway. ~ Charles Krauthammer on Fox

  1. Joe says:

Professor Bainbridge was pretty damning of George Bush for betraying conservatism. Some of it unfair (the blame goes way beyond GWB), some deserved.

There is a point to this (I do not want to bash on GWB, but make a point)–if conservatives really want to gain power they must must must act like conservatives. The social adgenda has to make sense (pro life). Other issues of the social adgenda, while conservatives generally support traditional positions, should be toward more freedom and more federalism. Let the states deal with gay marriage. Immigration reform (while needed) has to be done in a manner that does not alienate conservatives from Latinos (many who are conservative). Obviously conservatives support patriotism and national defense.

And given the state of the economy, fiscal and government policy must be conservative. That is the solution for turning things around. Less taxes, less spending, less deficits, less entitlements, no more expansion of government.
