Perseverence of the Saints

I was born a covenant child of New Orleans Saints fandom and, to put it politely, it has been a long 24 years.

Rick Cleveland of Mississippi’s Clarion Ledger has a great article about just how bad the Saints have been from day one:

More than 43 years later, the Saints’ long and winding road has finally led them to a Super Bowl. To say there were detours, wrong turns and crashes along the way is to understate matters entirely. For most of their first two decades, the Saints were the Aints, a fumble or a false start waiting to happen. Fans, to show their embarrassment for cheering such ineptitude, wore bags on their heads.

This is an ideal Super Bowl matchup. I have always been a Manning fan and, I am convinced that a certain Southernness attaches to them that allows someone in Mississippi to pull for teams in New York and Indianapolis. However, as between a Manning and the Saints, my allegiance lies with the Saints.

WHO DAT?!

I (dis)respectfully disagree. The Colts are going to win.

Started season as always praying for Chiefs ascendence. Switched mid-season to Cincinatti for no particular reason. Pulled for the old man in Minnesota all year because I’m even older. We end up with the Saints and the Colts. Perfect for me, the two best teams and I don’t have a favorite. Barring dirty play by someone or cheerleading for one team over the other by the annoucers I will see a great game with no personal pain.

Anyone seen the Tim Tebow ad? All you people who criticized him in eralier threads — shame on you!

Good game. but… we dont let geezers from the 1960’s take a few snaps during the game, why let The Who out there?

Baby Boomers it is over. They were not that good to start with. Is this a mini concert or an Ensure ad?

Saints beat Cults. Things haven’t changed since the Council of Nicea!

Relax Fraancis, we are in America and the Saints beat the COLTS. In America this is what we call “football.”

A good friend of mine from Gulfport put it this way when Farve was facing the Saints in the Championship–”I love Farve, but if he causes my Saints to go down I will drive to Kiln, MS and personally whoop his ass.”

He then went on to say that Peyton Manning is dead to him for playing for Tennessee in college–but that folks still like Eli for playing for Ol’ Miss.

  9. It’s Ole Miss, not Ol’ Miss.
