  1. Nick Says:

No the Devil’s worse. In the meantime (permanent Democratic majority ) faithful Christians should take time to pray for him and for a SCOTUS that protects life.

  2. Robert Says:

I always smell sulphur when he comes on my TV screen.

  3. TO Says:

    From the article:

“I am writing a book, about how to build a permanent—a long-term majority,” Mr. Schumer said during an early-morning interview in the pink den of his apartment near Grand Army Plaza. He sat between a view of lower Manhattan and portraits of Democratic icons Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Al Smith. “I generally have an eye toward longer-term strategy and politics, and I think my colleagues rely on me for that.”

This sounds like PFAW material. Start off with specious allegations of voter disenfranchisement, state that Schumer wants his “ideology” written into the Constitution, then cite this article as proof that Schumer wants to be emperor and scoffs at democracy. After all, he cites as the Dems greatest failure the confirmation of Justice Alito, despite the fact that the Dems were in the minority.

I despise Schumer. If I thought he had any understanding or respect for the role that courts play in the federal government, but his views merely diverged from mine, I’d be less excited about it.

Also, on page 2 he’s basically salivating over pork for New York.

  4. Joe Gator Says:

I seriously question how these scumbags get voted into office. Are people just stupid? or is it just a scumbag that is more inclined to run for political office?

  5. Joe Says:

That’s ok, there is only one Alito. Find someone better for Schumer to vote against! Schumer is wrong, in many many ways, but he is not the devil.

Roberts and Alito got in because there was a GOP majority but also because they were overwhelmingly qualified. If you find the right man or woman who has solid credentials and will support the idea that they are only there to interpret not make the law–you are 90% of the way there (and also 90% of the way to getting them confirmed).

  6. Jeff Says:

Apparently in this case the voters rejected the party of strict constructionist judges…and Presidents who found grand penumbras of expansive executive power, and Congressmen who looted the Treasury.

1-for-3 is not going to cut it.

  7. BillyHW Says:

    Are people just stupid?

    Democracy’s fatal flaw.

  8. Joe Gator Says:

“Apparently in this case the voters rejected the party of strict constructionist judges…and Presidents who found grand penumbras of expansive executive power, and Congressmen who looted the Treasury.”

I’m not so sure the people rejected strict constructionist judges. I really don’t think the average non-lawyer contemplates what type of judges the party they are voting for supports.

Additionally, the GOP and Bush have been terrible at communication. Why didn’t they talk about judges? Why wasn’t more made out of that initiative in NYC that allows people to essentially change sexes without an operation? Why didn’t they trumpet the low unemployment rate? Has W ever even heard of the concept “bully pulpit”?

  9. Jeff Says:

My point was this: if the GOP wants to champion jurisprudence in line with historical notions of limited government, it needs to demand that the other two branches to limit themselves as well.

  10. Jeff Says:

And I need to demand better grammar from my posts. ;)

  11. Christopher Says:

    Jeff,

    Excellent point.

  12. c matt Says:

    Are people just stupid?

    Democracy’s fatal flaw

Hilarious - mostly because its true.

  13. Neil Says:

no, the devil is the devil. schumer is merely a man.

  14. midwest lawyer Says:

W could have his staff spend some time finding a qualified judge who doesnt believe in making up rights so they are ready if and when the time comes. Unfortunately, W demonstrated he doesnt care re the judiciary when he nominated his lawyer/office manager for the USSC in 05. He will nominate the atty genl when the time comes, and then go back to sleep.

Why didnt Reps emphasize the fact that they were one vote away (hopefully) from reversing Roe?

  15. sfclerk Says:

“Why didnt Reps emphasize the fact that they were one vote away (hopefully) from reversing Roe?”

Are you serious with this question?

The answer is for several reasons — not the least of which is that it’s far from clear that the majority of the country would want Roe to be reversed. And, it certainly would’ve proven to be a lightning rod that would’ve alienated (perhaps permanently so) many socially moderate independents.

  16. Nick Says:

I will have to agree with SFClerk here. I want Roe reversed, but the Roe political wing has enshrined it with a status that most people don’t even vaguely understand. To reverse Roe is to remove a right and has only secondary attachment to abortion in most peoples minds. If the President had attached his judges to “reversing Roe”, as you’ll note the Democrat’s tried hard to do, it would have resulted in an earlier revolt amongst the moderates.

  17. Robert Says:

Neil, the antichrist is just a man, right? So Chuckie could still be in line for that job? (hey if it was good enough for Chuckie’s protege, Lyin’ Ken Salazar with James Dobson, its surely more apt here)

  18. Neil Says:

did dobson really proclaim salazar the anti-christ?? i knew he was increasingly full of himself, but that just takes the cake.

  19. Jay Says:

I seriously question how these scumbags get voted into office. Are people just stupid?

No, the people are not stupid. This time around, the Republicans were bigger “scumbags”.
IMO, this was a vote for divided government more than a vote for Democrats.

  20. Joe Gator Says:

Jay…I was merely wondering about how someone could vote for a guy like Schumer. He makes my skin crawl.

  21. Robert Says:

Neil, NO! Salazar called DOBSON the antichrist!
