When Democrats were in the minority during President Clinton’s last year in office, they repeatedly insisted that 1992 provided the proper yardstick for measuring confirmation progress. The current Judiciary Committee chairman said so in at least six different speeches between March and November of 2000. Here is a typical example: “I say let us compare 1992, in which there was a Democratic majority in the Senate and a Republican President. We confirmed 11 court of appeals court nominees. . . . and 66 judges in all. In fact, we went out in October of that year. We were having hearings in September. We were having people confirmed in October.”
Kudos to Sen. Hatch for calling out Leahy. For the past quarter century, the number of circuit court confirmations in the final Congress of a presidency has averaged at 17.

Hit submit too early…
The point is, the dems obstruction definitely needs to be pointed out. Sen. Specter recently did as much in a letter to Leahy:

The Dems are also trying to defeat a district court nominee named Gus Puryear. They have enlisted Time.com and some pro-prisoner org called PCI.org.
But there’s a great website the rebutts their allegations http://www.tnforpuryear.com. For example, they say Puryear tried to cover up an inmate death at a prison. Puryear is the general counsel for Corrections Corporation of America and defended the company when the inmate’s family sued. What the Dem’s are trying to suppress is that the Democrat, plaintiff’s trial lawyer who represented the dead inmate’s family in their suit against CCA has written a letter to the Judiciary Committee stating that Puryear acted ethically and that he support’s Puryear’s nomination. The letter and all kinds of material are on the website.
