Disrespected: the new McCain ad; Obama’s on the offense
Apparently, the Obama campaign is fighting back hard, implying in its most recent ad that McCain is not hip and with it since he doesn’t know how to use email. This is what McCain’s comeback should be: “This is coming from a guy who won’t interact with me in a series of townhall meetings. Does he really think that you win the presidency by emailing it in?”
I can’t imagine that the Obama ad is going to go over well in Florida and Nevada, where there are large populations of senior citizens who vote. Here’s what some people, like my own parents, may think after viewing these two ads: Obama and Biden disrespect women, and now senior citizens.

It’s my understanding that after Florida PA is actually the second oldest electorate, so I can’t imagine it’d go over well there either, especially western PA.
Here in South Florida, there’s already a mistrust of him among many older folks, especially the temple attending Jewish voters.
I can use eMail, but I do not have an iPod or iPhone and really do not want to learn all of these toys/luxury items. I do not see the need when I have perfectly good alternatives. John McCain will have a staff available, like all executives, in order to do these sorts of things. I think this will backfire even among the computer literate, because many people, like me, really do not think these things are required, they are luxuries.
I thought Barack Obama’s personal ad, the one about real change was positive and much more effective (even if I disagree with the change he has in mind).
The disco one looks like they are following McCain’s lead, as in McCain is the hipper of the two. Retro Old School Mac vs. Boring Barack PC.
I thought this passage interesting:
[Dobbs] attacked the media as biased, in both the way it reports the news as well as the choices of stories they choose to publish. Dobbs says that the Sarah Palin nomination demonstrated this beyond any doubt. She was “savaged†by the media, including “intelligentsia†like Matt Damon and Whoopi Goldberg. Keith Olbermann is hanging by a “seriously medicated thread,†and told the audience that after Olbermann went after Dobbs’ children, he’d like to get him in a room alone for a … frank exchange of ideas.
I wonder if Dobbs is trying for “Worst Person In The World†tonight?

I know for a fact that the young democrat star Rep. Artur Davis (D-AL) refuses to use a computer/send email/carry a blackberry. Is he out of touch too, Mr. Obama?
If this is the best the Obamanauts can come up with, I think McCain has the election in the bag.
As a woman who has worked with the elderly for 31 years, I am deeply offended that Obama would criticize someone for his age. What happened to his “least of these” Bible verses? This message squares perfectly with his disparaging view of unwanted babies and, for that matter, with his health care plan that will in the end have to pick and choose which people are most “deserving” of the best care. Or any care. And why does “old” McCain answer questions crisply and quickly, while the young rock star hems and haws?
McCain is now in serious jeopardy of overplaying the “Palin Disrespected” card. It’s wearing thin, especially when the ad is completely misleading:

Computer skills? computer skills?! We’re talking bout computer skills? (channeling Allen Iverson). Barackward’s advisors must be a bunch of snotty, self absorbed college sophomores. This is going to play real well (for McCain).
Again, factcheck.org is good for checking texts. But the McCain campaign is citing the subtexts, which passive aggressively dismiss Palin. And that ain’t no fairy tale.
According to 0bamalogic, people like me who know who to build and administer an email server are more qualified to be President than one who only knows how to use email.
I wonder if Obama cound fly combat aircraft????
Obama wants to lampoon McCain’s fashion from the 1980s because he can’t acknowledge the honor and character that has been evident since the time Obama was experimenting with drugs. See the new POW release footage, unearthed in s Swedish network’s archives…

Andrew Sullivan even does not like Obama’s It Came from the 80s ad:
Sully writes: “Obama tries to hit McCain for being out of touch. I really think he doesn’t need to go there. The McCain campaign is imploding. Do nothing but stay calm and focused on the issues.”
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/off-balance.html
Since Andrew does not have an editor, let me help out:
Obama tries to … [channel Steve Schmidt]…[This is about as effective as this Boy George rave tribute to the One: http://dirtyharrysplace.com/?p=4358 ] The…[Obama] campaign is imploding. Do nothing but stay calm and focused on the issues. [As Lenin said: "A lie told often enough becomes the truth."]
If Obama is going to respond to these ads, I’d prefer to see him quoting McCain from 2007 (the Fox Republican Debate – http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/21/us/politics/21debate-transcript.html?_r=1&pagewanted=3&fta=y&oref=slogin):
MCCAIN: I am prepared. I am prepared. I need no on-the-job training.
I wasn’t a mayor for a short period of time. I wasn’t a governor for a short period of time.
This is very easy. Buy McCain a Blackberry and show him how to use it. Next townhall meeting have him sit there and send this email to Obama HQ – “lol, your data is so old!”
I would like to see Massiah OBama come screaming in at 180 knots on to a landing field 130 feet wide by 896 feet long bouncing around on 20 foot seas with a 50 knot wind.
Or how about using a TACAN computer to drop a bomb with in 50 foot of a target after flying three hours at 450 knots in 0.0 conditions. (that where you can’t see the nose of the aircraft from the pilots seat.
There are computer applications and then there are really important computer application. I will leave the reader to decide which is which.
JIM D SAYS “There are computer applications and then there are really important computer application. I will leave the reader to decide which is which”
And the question is who will have ultimate control over those tech systems
I’m still a long way from needing a walker and a hearing aid, and I’ve been tremondously irritated by the disrespect and contempt for age shown by the Obamabrats. I wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve read or heard a snarky reference to senility, Depends, etc. If it annoys me, I can only imagine the effect it has on, a 70 year old of sound mind and good health.
And those 70 year olds, unlike the “youths” the Dems have been pinning their hopes on since ’68 (I can remember “Get Clean for Gene”) actually get out and vote on election day.
Still, if the Dems want to continue mocking McCain’s age, let ‘em. I think they will find it’s not a winning strategy.
In fact, I’m willing to help the Dems with their next ad, one in the same vein as this one.
I think they should show the two rednecks from “Deliverance” slavering over a picture of Palin. Just to remind voters that everyone who votes for McCain/Palin is an inbred, gun-totin’ degenerate. We know who the really smart people are, after all.
Ed Morrissey notes (http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/12/why-cant-mccain-email/) that McCain CAN’T, not doesn’t.
“…McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes…”
Once again, Obama shoots first, then looks. Waiting for the inevitable backtracking/blaming others.
Ira, as Mark Steyn pointed out at the Corner, the oh-so-Internet savvy Obama team apparently doesn’t know how to Google – if they did they would have found out why McCain can’t use email.
I’m thankful to Barack Obama for this ad, since it puts the lie to his claim to being a new kind of politician.
I’ve sent a link to the ad to my friends, encouraging them to watch the ad (and sharing it with THEIR friends), then telling them exactly WHY John McCain can’t use a computer.
More dishonesty from The Atlantic. It is not just fever swamp explorer Andrew “Dr. Livingston I presume” Sullivan smearing the birth of Baby Trig with every nutrooter rumor he can mudrake up, it is also the cover for The Atlantic this month. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2008/09/13/lib-photographer-admits-making-mccain-look-sinister-mag-cover
