A few thoughts and observations on the debate
First of all, it’s pretty sweet that my alum mater hosted the first Presidential debate of the campaign. Hotty Toddy!
If you were watching C-SPAN before the debate got started, you heard moderator Jim Lehrer essentially say he wasn’t going to take any nonsense from the audience and would have no compunction in putting any houlighans in their place. I was impressed; who knew a boring PBS guy could be something approaching bad-a**?
“I have a bracelet, too”. I think this expresses my opinion of that remark better that what I can write.
McCain flubbed a couple of times in a row on Ahmadinejad’s name; he should have just taken the Glenn Beck approach and called him “President Tom“. That’s what I do.
I was really annoyed with this line from Obama “… it’s been your president who you said …” No, President Bush is our President; yours, mine, and that of the rest of the 300 million Americans. Look, Bill Clinton, though I think very little of him, was my President from 1993 to 2001, just as Barack Obama would be my President if he should <shutter> win.
Senator McCain, please bring your A game on economic matters next time. Like the one you brought on the actual topic of the debate.
And Quin, I know this sounds harsh, but if you are relying on those focus groups on CNN to validate your gut feelings…um, er…you need to get a better gut.

Well said Patrick.
Kind of a superficial review there, Patrick. Nice scene outside the Ford Center, though. ESPN Game Day for political geeks.
As I have said on another post:
Not only was Obama’s response (about the bracelet) totally lame, did you notice how he fumbled and had to look down at the bracelet to remember the soldier’s name.
But in all honesty, do you expect anything more from the most inexperienced candidate for president in American history.
I know McCain was a POW, but Glenn Beck was caught with a “break” or “parting” stick for prying open dogs’ mouths during fights and an electric treadmill modified for dogs (pit bulls).
Shimmy-
What in the heck are you talking about?
Sadly, I think that was McCain’s A game on economics.
When it comes to economic I think we have here a failure to communicate!
I had to throw that in for Paul N. RIP
[...] From Southern Appeal, [...]
Feddie,
Well, all I can say is, don’t you think it’s funny that Glenn Beck NEVER talks anymore about all those dogs he tortured and killed (pit bulls)?
Obama is still the arrogant one.
I agree that his comment about “Your President” is annoying. But it is the classic expression of what the left has become.
They are the ones who see a divided America.
Obama has come to divide not to unite. He is not change and hope. He is divide and conquer.
My sadness comes from the fact that the American people are so easily swayed into crowd mentality. Our schools and our parents must get back to teaching our kids critical thinking, American heritage, American Exceptionalism and American individualism.

No More Golden Parachutes for Disgraced CEOs! Except for Those Who Contribute to Schumer and Obama…
For all the chest-pounding by Washington politicians, especially Democrats, about CEOs of failed banks and financial institutions receiving “golden parachutes,” why is it these guys all tend to be big bucks Democrat contributors?
Can you say hypocrisy, boys and girls? It’s bad enough Barack Obama has the audacity to do this while he’s pals with Franklin Raines, who walked away from Fannie Mae with $90 million, but now comes news that the CEO of the failed Washington Mutual bank, Alan Fishman, may walk off with a $13 million package.

Mac better start making these distinctions and fast.
Shimmy,
I’ll repeat what Feddie said: what on earth are you talking about?
Blackadder, I’m afraid you’re right.
“Obama has come to divide not to unite. He is not change and hope. He is divide and conquer.”
And yet Obama was the one who acknowledged when McCain was right in the debate. And McCain is the one who has such dislike and lack of respect for Obama, he won’t even look him in the eye.
I actually thought Obama did pretty well; it was probably close enough to a draw that it won’t hurt Obama that much.
Of course, my expectations for Obama were extremely low, and by that measure he surpassed them.
Mark,
Are you really that naive or just playing with us with your statement,
“And yet Obama was the one who acknowledged when McCain was right in the debate. And McCain is the one who has such dislike and lack of respect for Obama, he won’t even look him in the eye.”
One debate does not a divider make. Obama has been spewing forth anti-American hate speech against conservatives for years. His connections with Bill Ayers, George Soros and Saul Alinsky frame his political thinking and develop his rhetoric. His politics are divide and conquer America.
But if you want to play that game, then what about leaving McCain’s title as Senator off and calling him John.
I hope people of your persuasion wake up and see Obama for who he really is before he dumps on you and yours. Believe me if he takes office in the White House, all of us will be subjected to Obama Chicago Elitist Cronyism suppression.

Patrick–
I should’ve provided more context.
I was really just up in arms about McCain saying that we should wait until Glenn Beck is released from prison before we start the presidential debates. Old news now, since McCain actually decided not to back out.
Still, though, what about all those dogs (pit bulls) that Glenn Beck tortured and killed? Could John McCain look those dogs in the eyes, honestly, and tell them it’s OK to wait and not have a debate on the issues?
Shimmy:
Dude, lay off the cough syrup. We’re worried about you man.
Okay–I laughed at this one (but I want to see an Obama version too).

I think Shimmy may be referring to this:

First I’ve heard of it. The yahoo link to the story has expired.

Upon closer examination, I agree with Crankycon on Shimmy. Too much cough syrup.
Shimmy, seriously, what is your malfunction? What is the joke you are trying to make?
Patrick, I don’t find anything funny in what happened to those dogs (pit bulls).
