TIME TO MOVE FORWARD
It will come as no surprise to anyone that I am not happy with the results of the election. I believe my country has made a serious mistake. I believe that it will have long term negative ramifications my children, and probably their children, will have to deal with.
That said, the country has spoken and in January Sen Obama will become my Commander-in-Chief. Consequently, while I expect to disagree with many of Mr. Obama’s policies I will have no tolerance for anything that smacks of Obama derangement syndrome. I am aware that the left did not afford President Bush this courtesy and their Bush=Hitler slur was disgraceful in the extreme. Nevertheless, two wrongs don’t make a right. Furthermore, we are better than that.
I recommend the following articles to my fellow conservatives: One by Victor Davis Hanson and one by Jeffery Shapiro.

I agree. Barack Obama is my president. I hope he is successful (I mean objectively for the country) for my own family’s sake and the sake of this country. So I will give him the benefit of doubt.
That said, we better get prepared on gun rights, the fairness doctrine, the war on terror, taxes and a host of other issues. We need to be vigilant and on guard for shenanigins (it is not a good sign with “Ari Gold’s Brother” as Chief of Staff).
Should be interesting. I’m curious to see if he lives up to his backroom rep as a smart guy who is really a lightweight when it comes to pulling the trigger on decisions. He gets a policy pass until after the inauguration, but just because he’s sitting in the big chair doesn’t mean he deserves my respect. I mean, the guy hasn’t said or done anything and would be brokering deals in the Illinois senate if he looked more like his mom and less like his dad.
My only advice is that if you need to take a capital gain you do it before 12/31.
It is a big deal that Barack Obama is the first African American president. When Juan Williams got choked up about it, it affected me too. Althouse on Juan William’s moment And that is a positive thing.
Good on ya. Gallantry is the order of the day, not imitating the worst of the opposition.
Perhaps the official in question will grow……in fortitude and wisdom and be capable of standing up for our country and our way of life.

Joe- I missed the Juan moment. Thanks for posting it. And good luck to the president-elect.
Shapiro is delusional. Unfair to Bush? He’s been unfair to us, and got a lot of soldiers killed in the process.
Let us not be led down the path of emotionalism and meaningless “good will”. That’s what led a majority of voters to place the country in the position in which it finds itself today.
Centinel, if nothing else, we need to respect the office. And we can afford to give him the benefit of the doubt. If we’re wrong about him, praise God; if we’re right, we’ll know soon enough.

CB: The “office” is an abstract and cannot be separated from the individual. I will respond to a presidential order our of respect for the “office,” but that doesn’t mean I owe any particular president goodwill. If America wants me to respect my president, it should give me better presidents.
If for nothing else, I can respect him for running a historically unique campaign (and one that left him significantly less beholden to his party than any of his predecessors, Republican or Democrat) and smacking down the original anointed one – Hillary. He managed to beat the Clintons, which is something that few people thought was possible two years ago. Especially for someone who came out of left field (no pun intended).
Centinel, I prefer to start by granting him respect for managing to pull off a presidential win. I’d LOVE to see you do the same. I’ll tell you right now that he’s made of sterner stuff than me. Of course, that means he has nowhere to go but down, but that’s his problem not mine. In the meantime, I expect to be surprised. And, if I’m not, I’ll take a deep breath and figure out who to replace him with.
Fireduck,
Historically unique campaign? The best campaign EVER, by a long shot, at least in my lifetime.
I stand in awe of how someone with his shady associations/friendships and glaring lack of experience could become President. He inspired people to a cult-like adoration, where any question about him was automatically brushed off as racism.
I think the pundit who said that this was the “Affirmative Action” election was right. He managed to hoodwink, not a few hundred gullible followers, but most of the United States.
Obama’s campaign, “brilliant?” That’s a stretch. Sure, he didn’t screw anything up too badly, but come on, he had the media campaigning for him from the day he announced. Furthermore, his opponent was quite possibly the worst candidate and ran arguably the worst campaign in recent memory. This election was over the day McCain became our nominee.

Re: the “historically unique” campaign — you could say the same about the person who ran for chancellor in one of the northern European countries in the early 1930s.
Clare – really? The Hitler reference AGAIN? I mean, really? You going to accuse him of raping small children next?
