Free Speech Really, Truly, Honestly at Risk

I had seen all of this in different places, but when you put it all together, it suddenly seems a lot scarier.  Anderson is spot on arguing that the sources of all of these efforts to regulate (or re-regulate) is a rigidly egalitarian conception of politics that is less worried about liberty and more about ensuring that citizens have “equal” influence on government.  Indeed, for most liberal political theorists, law professors, and the like, the concern is *not* for the protection of liberties, but for the protection of liberties in such a way that all citizens may have equal opportunity to exercise them.  (Of course, newspapers won’t be publishing op-eds from Joe plumber anytime soon – those political theorists and law profs will still get *their* voices heard.  Funny how that works.)
