Chivalry is not dead — but this tool should be next time he sees his girlfriend’s dad. Watch him bail while she gets pegged by a foul ball.

And I’m not buying his alibi.

Update: She dumped him.

Eliminate the Rhetoric!

By Tom Van Dyke (Email) @ 12:06 am

I make it most readers of this blog also read Instapundit, Glenn Reynolds linking mostly to what’s going on in the rightosphere.

He reports his

EMAIL OF THE DAY: A call for civility:

I cannot emphasize this enough: your brand of public discourse is hurting our country. It us poison. So f——…

The intelligent reader gets the gist of the rest after “f”. Blahblah. Woofwoof.

This isn’t to say one side is better or worse than the other. We’re all human beings, all equally prone to anger and bad behavior.

But gotta, I have some experience with the blog and the writer [who shall go unnamed] that specializes in chronicling the “Eliminationist Rhetoric” of the right wing. Probably invented the term.

I asked them if that door swings both ways, but that person—quite courteously, mind you—told me that no, the blog was devoted to the right wing’s excesses.

OK, fine. That’s how they make their living, and I wouldn’t want to deny anyone their living. That’s how Glenn Beck makes his living, with colors reversed. And no, I won’t mention the name of blog or person because I don’t want his followers in the culture war to come pollute this here blog, which deals with ideas, not rhetoric. [And out of respect for him personally. He was courteous to me and forthright.]

But the term “eliminationist rhetoric” is hollow rhetoric in itself. It’s the sort of phrase that tries to give real meaning to “I wish Political Opponent X would drop dead.”

Well, I hope that everyone who disagrees with me here gets hit by an asteroid. F. U. 2. [Although we would need very very many well-targeted and very tiny asteroids to wipe you all out at once. But that can be worked out. Nothing is impossible.]

Anywayz, Glenn Reynolds is on a roll, proving “elimination rhetoric” is dripping provably from both sides, as if it mattered in the first place. Talk is talk, action is action. Americans killing Americans over our political differences numbers in the low single digits yearly, not bad atall atall for a nation of 300 million, in fact, it’s as pritnear a miracle as one could ever reasonably expect.

So let’s drop this concern about rhetoric that amounts to little or nothing, and get on with the national discussion about reality.

And if anybody wants to whine and moan and play victim on this, I hope your wife poisons you in your sleep, because she’s probably a Tea Partier, and sick of your passive-aggressive whining. Man up and defend Obamacare on its own merits or hit the road.

[HT: Instapundit, bigtime. You go, boy.]

Stupak in a crossfire

right where he belongs

This from LifeNews:

Stupak first faces a primary election challenge from a hardcore abortion advocate who, today finds herself getting national support from NARAL. … “Over the last several months, we’ve been forced to witness Rep. Bart Stupak’s despicable attempts to hijack health-care reform because of his extreme anti-choice agenda,” NARAL president Nancy Keenan said today an in [sic] email LifeNews.com obtained.

And if Stupak makes it through the primary, there will be a pro-life republican waiting to challenge him. But to make it through the primaries, he will likely have to downplay his ostensible pro-life stance which will make it tough to win many pro-life Michiganders.

Such is the fate of weak men.

How to Ruin a Child

1. Too much self esteem

2. Too little sleep.

This article by George Will pokes at raising children today, where soccer teams don’t count goals, lest the child who never scores (that would be me) develops a permanently damaged psyche. I’d heard a lot of these stupid self-esteem habits but I didn’t think they were that prevalent. Those parents disgust me. Your child is not the chance for you to redo your youth the way you think it should have gone, but then I don’t have kids so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.  Maybe this is how the youth grow into the entitlement generation. We’re awesome and we know it; Now give us what we want.

A PACK OF MERCENARY WRETCHES

By Joel L (Email) @ 10:29 pm

In my last post decrying the shameless legislative prostitution of congressional call girls legislators Mary Landrieu and Ben Nelson I was taken to task by one of our liberal readers for my naivete regarding run of the mill legislative “log rolling.” Apparently, only a uninformed boob would object to legislators who, having previously carved out a position based on a highly publicized moral position, cave on that self same position once they are offered enough money. Wow, I thought all this “log rolling” was to be a thing of the past in the new transparent age of Obama who, after lowering sea levels and global temperatures, would bring a new tone to Washington.

While our associates on the left may have made their peace with corruption I have not. I remain disgusted at the performance of our legislature regarding healthcare reform. If this issue is as important as they say then why the artificial deadline of getting this thing done before Christmas? Why not take the necessary time to get this thing done right? Why do we have to rush this thing through?

Reelection. Thats it. These high priced whores in D.C couldn’t care less about the welfare of the nation. Its all about them and the retention of political power. Their shameless self promotion at the cost of the fiscal health of the public purse disgusts me to no end. Apparently, certain liberal readers believe such thinking is hopelessly naive. For them I offer the following clip:

Absolutely right. “When statesmen abandon their own private conscience for the sake of their public duties they lead their country by a short route to chaos.”

I think Oliver Cromwell’s rebuke of the House of Commons is particularly applicable to our legislature today.

“It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money. Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess?

“Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter’d your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth? Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil’d this sacred place, and turn’d the Lord’s temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress’d, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. In the name of God, go!”

AMEN!!!!!!

Every two years, the unwashed LSU faithful crawl out of their brackish swamp and travel to Oxford, MS, bent on defiling our cosmopolitan soil like so many socially-perverse locusts. But we welcome you, that even one of your young might leave with the indelible mark of civility.

As to the game: beware of the man who has singlehandedly redeemed the name “Dexter.” Be sure and wave as he runs past you, because it’s all you can do.

Michael Sean Winters must be dizzy

I know I would be if I spun this wildly.

[Deal] Hudson argues that the public option will end up extending federal funding for abortion. He says that the courts will step in even if Congress doesn’t mandate abortion coverage in any such plan. Mind you, the courts have not stepped in to over-rule the Hyde Amendment lo these many years. The federal health insurance coverage that members of Congress enjoy does not include abortion coverage. Federal Medicaid funds do not support abortion. So, why would the federal option, which would be modeled after the insurance that members of Congress get, necessarily end up mandating abortion coverage? Hudson does not say. (more…)

The King is Dead. Long Live the King. I am  so glad that my visit to Cooperstown in about fifteen years or so won’t be ruined by a display to the most foolish player in baseball. Seriously. This man has all-world talent and instead of imitating the humility and class of his boyhood idol, Cal Ripken, Jr., he literally pisses it away chasing millions and a hallowed record. Thankfully we’re finally seeing the sunset on a generation of players who flew too, too high on borrowed wings.
